Colorado Entertainer Velvet Coleman has been hired 32 times on Thumbtack. Her well-crafted intro messages ensure potential customers understand the magic of her fun children’s company.
Here’s the quote that landed the gig for Coleman’s business face-painting in Denver, Giggle Loopsy:
My name is Giggle Loopsy, and I’m a face painting clown but not the type you’re thinking of! =)
I would love to come to your little one’s birthday party, it sounds so much fun! Making kids feel special on their birthday is my specialty!
Let’s see here, about the party… My hourly rate is $75/hr. So the total would be $150 for a two hour party.
After I face paint all the kiddos, I make balloon animals and we play and sing. Just remember, you’re not interested in me for my singing voice. 😉
My website, and specifically my face painting page has LOTS more information that might answer your questions. You can find that page by going to http://giggleloopsy.com/face-painting-denver
While you’re there, be sure to checkout my gallery too. =)
I look forward to hearing from you, thanks for reaching out!
Have a GREAT day!
Coleman does everything right, according to data Thumbtack has collected from analyzing the similarities between the thousands upon thousands of quotes that result in jobs. A perfect message doesn’t guarantee a new client – there are many factors in play – but Coleman has found the perfect recipe.
Message Elements Used By Successful Pros
Giggle Loopsy does the following to make sure her quotes have the highest possible success rate:
- Uses the customer’s name
- Expresses genuine excitement about the project
- Explains her price
- Makes her services – and their value – clear
- Points the customer toward her website to answer any further questions
She uses three internet lead generators for her company – “we get more quotes fulfilled through Thumbtack,” she says. “We just wanted to be found easily when people type in ‘face painter in Denver.’”
But sometimes she feels limited by the word count allowed on first messages. “Since we have such a variety of entertainment styles, I can’t explain all of it in my character limit,” Coleman explains. “Sometimes, I’ll send a message saying, ‘I’m not at my office right now, so I’ll send you a full quote in a moment’ – and then, when I go back and reply, I don’t have any character restrictions and I can tell them everything I want to say.”
One of the reasons Thumbtack limits word count on initial quotes is because customers can get overwhelmed by a lot of text – so the pro is less likely to be hired. But some industries are more complex than others and need a bit more leeway. Coleman found a solution that was perfect for her business.
Coleman sometimes uses Thumbtack as a customer too, like when she’s on the hunt for DJs or a jolly Santa Claus to contract with for parties. “It’s very interesting to see,” she explains. “I’ve really enjoyed working on both sides of it, so that’s helped me sculpt how we send out quote, knowing how we react to them as a customer.”
