Elizabeth Slocum is a parent at a San Marino, California middle school. She co-chairs the PTA post Noontime Fun, which provides bi-monthly structured activities for the kids at lunchtime.
At the beginning of the school year Elizabeth and her Noontime co-chair Illona published a calendar of events. They planned on organizing fourteen activities throughout the year – activities like cookie decorating, water play and t-shirt tie-dye days. For the final activity of the year Elizabeth and Illona scheduled the event “Make a Father’s Day Present”, with no idea yet on what that would actually entail.
Enter Elizabeth’s adorable husband.
“Our plan was to do some crafts for the kids to give Dtphoad as a present on Father’s Day,” Elizabeth said. “I wasn’t finding any compelling crafts on the internet though, so I asked my husband what he would want. And he said ‘all I really ever want is photos of my kids.’”
So that’s what they did. Elizabeth turned back to the internet and searched for “photo booth rentals” in her area. That’s when she found Thumbtack.
She filled out a request form and got two responses: one from seasoned Thumbtack pro, Aaron Quintana of Caliber Photo Works. Elizabeth was impressed by Quintana’s responsiveness to her phone calls and emails. “He was great,” said Elizabeth. “I’d use him again.”
So how’d the event go? The kids loved it! The photo booth was used to get a solo shot of each kid to attach to their Father’s Day card.
But the kids, unsurprisingly, mostly just wanted to take photos with their friends. So next year the Noontime team decided to include a separate activity that will include photo booths that let the kids take photos however they want. So not only did Elizabeth and Illona get a great end of the year activity and Father’s Day present, but the photo booths were such a hit that they’ll be bringing them back next year.
