What’s more fun than a selfie at a party? Selfies with friends at a party! It’s rare to go to a wedding without a photo booth these days, but there’s no reason weddings should have all the fun. In many places you can rent a photobooth for under $500, which makes them affordable entertainment for holiday parties, birthday parties, showers – or any gathering that requires some entertainment.
Between five and seven thousand people come to Thumbtack each month looking to rent a photo booth (which is a lot!) and that made us wonder: what are the best places to rent a photo booth right now – and what kind of events are most popular?
To answer these and other pressing photo booth questions, our data scientists looked at all photo booth requests across the country and assigned 75 cities a “Photo Booth Friendliness” score, based on their level of supply to demand (since higher supply leads to more options for consumers), average rental prices, and ratings of the photo booth providers operating in the area.
Photo Booth Friendliness Index
According to our data, the best place to rent a photo booth is Orlando, Florida which earned the top spot on our Photo Booth Friendliness Index by performing exceptionally well in each of the three dimensions on we graded it. It earned high marks for having highly rated photo booth professionals, very competitive prices – $430.27 per event on average – and a high level of supply relative to the demand there.
The city with the cheapest prices on average? Sin City! Though Las Vegas scored well overall, it fell out of the top 10 thanks to having a supply to demand ratio that’s slightly below average and for having photo booth pros with ratings that weren’t high, but not quite as high as elsewhere in country.
San Francisco took the top spot on the supply-to-demand dimension, since consumers there were consistently presented with the most photo booth options. It also scored highly for having highly rated professionals (66.94 out of 100) and, unlike its housing prices, having affordable prices, with an average price of $471.83 per event.
The worst place to rent a photo booth for a party? That would be Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, thanks to low supply relative to demand, less competitive prices, and lower overall ratings for photo booths at parties.
The most popular events for photo booths are still weddings, although birthdays are almost as popular, followed by special event/parties, school events, and corporate events.
